Dear friends,

2023 has resulted be finally a much better year of the expected thing for the investors of the equity markets and fixed income. An extremely complex environment characterised both by a tightening of monetary policy with interest rates closing at 4.5% and by serious new conflicts. The war in Ukraine has had a strong impact on energy and commodity prices in general, and as a result, prospects for the future were bleak. To this we must add the conflict in Gaza.

The year has seen a significant rise in global stock market returns, while fixed-income has not only halted the price decline of the previous year, but also recovered strongly, and closed the year with profits and high interest rates.

As a leader in securities custody and depositary services for collective investment institutions and pension funds in Spain, Cecabank has been bringing together industry professionals from banks, fund managers, supervisors and regulators, technology companies and new players for 11 years to address and discuss the operational, technological, digital and regulatory changes that are constantly taking place and have a direct impact on this sector, as well as European projects in post-trading.

The entity is currently the leading depositary of collective investment institutions and pension funds in Spain, holding €224 billion in deposits from more than 40 fund managers, with more than €310 billion in securities under custody from nearly 100 financial institutions of all types, and a solvency ratio of 29.3%, more than double that of a conventional bank. These figures reflect the growth of the bank as a result of its high level of specialisation and the ongoing adoption of innovation and digitalisation processes.

To ensure the continued success of this initiative, I would be delighted if you could make time in your schedule to participate in our 10th Securities Services Conference which, entitled 'Digital Assets, AI and Regulation: critical to the future of post-trading', will be held on Tuesday, 5 March 2024, at the Professional Association of Architects of Madrid (COAM).

The last edition attracted more than 140 companies and institutions, and I am convinced that this year's content will once again be of great interest.

We hope to see you there.

Aurora Cuadros Sánchez

Corporate Director

Securities Services Division of Cecabank

On 5 March, in an in-person format, Cecabank will hold a new edition of the Securities Services Conference under the title 'Digital Assets, AI and Regulation: critical to the future of post-trading'. In this tenth edition we will focus on current issues. A conference where banks, fund managers, supervisors and regulators, and technology companies will address and discuss the operational, technological, AI, digital and regulatory changes that are constantly taking place and have a direct impact on this sector, as well as European projects in post-trading.

The event will include the participation of Rodrigo Buenaventura, Chairman of the Spanish National Securities Market Commission, and representatives from the Bank of Spain, as well as other high-level speakers.

The event is intended for executives, managing directors, operations directors, regulatory compliance officers, legal officers, internal monitoring managers, accounting managers, and staff involved in operational and monitoring divisions of CII fund managers, pension fund managers and managers of voluntary contribution pension schemes, insurance companies, closed-ended collective investment fund management companies (venture capital), venture capital firms, securities firms and agencies, financial depositary institutions, and financial institutions that offer securities services to their customers and to financial advisory firms.

Cecabank, the benchmark custodian bank in Securities Services in Spain and Portugal and provider of specialised solutions for all kinds of national and international financial institutions and corporations, begins 2024 by achieving its best ever turnover figures related to the depositary activities of savings and investment vehicles and the settlement and custody of securities.

In the depositary segment, in which Cecabank provides services to more than 40 fund managers of collective investment institutions, pension funds, voluntary contribution pension schemes and venture capital firms, the volume of assets under deposit amounts to more than €224 billion.

With regard to the total volume of assets under custody, the nearly 100 financial institutions of all types to which Cecabank provides custodian services, totalled €310 billion in securities in more than 70 markets.

The Bank's achievement of these figures is due both to the good market performance and positive net subscriptions in 2023 and to the onboarding of new customers. These figures have enabled Cecabank to retain its leading position in Securities Services for yet another year, as the largest independent Spanish custodian and the leading domestic provider of settlement and custody services, actively partnering with management companies, banks, insurance companies and investment services companies in regulatory, operational and business aspects, guaranteeing its customers that it will not compete with them.

For over a decade, Cecabank has been consolidating its position as a benchmark institution in the securities, treasury and payment services market. In-depth regulatory knowledge and a high level of operational specialisation in custody and depositary services; its business model, based on neutrality, independence and high quality service; as well as the trust placed in it by its customers, are the primary reasons why, in just ten years, it has consolidated its position in the field of Securities Services.

About Cecabank

Cecabank is the leading custodian bank in Securities Services in Spain and Portugal and a provider of specialised solutions in Payments and Treasury Management. Its differential position is based on its independence, given that the bank does not belong to a retail banking group, and its neutrality, in that it is focused on the custody and depositary business without providing asset management services.

The main premise of Cecabank is its commitment to excellence and quality of service, as acknowledged once again for the seventh consecutive year by Global Banking & Finance Review, having honoured it with the award for Best Custodian Bank 2023 Spain. In addition, one characteristic that identifies Cecabank is its high level of solvency. Its speciality in Securities Services requires these levels to maintain the trust of its customers: management companies and financial institutions.
