Cecabank’s General Manager is appointed as independent expert at the EIB

On 19 July the Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank (EIB) appointed its new independent experts, one of whom was the Spaniard José María Méndez Álvarez-Cedrón.

The main role of the EIB’s Board of Directors is to decide on the granting of credit, guarantees and loans. It also oversees the good management of the EIB and the observance of the provisions of the Treaties and general guidelines adopted by the Board of Governors, comprising Ministers (usually of the Economy) from the 28 Member States.

José María Méndez, General Manager of CECA and Cecabank, takes on this position of responsibility at the EIB at a key moment when the institution is planning measures to reactivate the financing of Europe’s SMEs.

Between 1999 and 2003 José María Méndez held various posts in Spain’s Directorate General of the Treasury and Financial Policy.  He is currently General Manager of CECA and Cecabank, which was create in November 2011 and specialises in providing financial and technology services to other financial institutions.
