Cecabank, payment processor for the Spanish Tax Agency in collaboration with ABANCA and Ibercaja

Cecabank, as a payment processor, has provided its Internet payment gateway to two of the four institutions selected by the Spanish Tax Agency for the collection of taxes, with special relevance for the 2024 Income Tax campaign

This new public-private cooperation in the field of payments will harness the experience and resources of the financial sector to improve the efficiency and outreach of the public administration

Yesterday, 2 April, the 2024 income tax return campaign got underway, bringing with it new features for taxpayers. One of the main new features is the possibility of paying your tax return via Bizum and bank card, in addition to traditional methods such as direct debit, debiting your account, the Complete Reference Number (CRN) method and payment at bank branches.

Cecabank will be the processor for ABANCA and Ibercaja, two of the four credit institutions awarded the contract, to which it has provided the payment gateway (virtual POS) and the process that allows them to partner with the Spanish Tax Agency in this campaign so that taxpayers can pay their taxes by card or Bizum, if the tax return is negative.

The comprehensive evolution of the payments ecosystem is characterised by a constant dynamism that accompanies a society that is incessantly demanding greater speed and agility in its transactions, a consequence of unprecedented disruption that requires all participants in the value chain to rethink their strategy, while ensuring security. All this in an increasingly interconnected scenario, which requires an open and universal regulatory framework to ensure the sustainability of the system.

Cecabank, as a wholesale bank providing payment processing services for the financial sector, plays a key role in the payment services ecosystem, continuously reformulating its solutions to adapt to new challenges. This allows its payment customers - banks, payment and e-money institutions or large corporates - to set trends and innovate at the same pace as the digital transformation.

Public-private cooperation in the field of payments harnesses the experience and resources of the private sector to improve the efficiency and outreach of public services. Thanks to their capillarity and digitalisation, financial sector institutions play a key role in the daily operations of Spanish public administrations, facilitating the collection of taxes and the payment of public benefits. This drives the automation of payment processes, optimises efficiency and reduces the administrative burden for citizens and businesses.
