Cecabank continues to advance its global digital assets strategy through crypto-asset custody services, tokenised money initiatives and participation in European financial infrastructures such as Qivalis and RL1
Cecabank, the leading Securities Services bank in the Iberian market, hosted today Building Luxembourg's Digital Assets Ecosystem A Strategic Roundtable in Luxembourg, bringing together representatives from financial institutions, asset managers, technology providers and other organisations to explore the opportunities that digital assets offer the financial sector.
Opening the event, Ainhoa Jáuregui, CEO of Cecabank, highlighted: "At Cecabank, we are building a bridge between traditional financial infrastructures and the emerging tokenised economy. We want our clients to access new forms of digital money, stablecoins and tokenised assets with the same standards of security, control and regulatory compliance that have always defined our business”.
The event featured a keynote presentation by Vid Hribar, Head of Institutional Partnerships at Qivalis, who discussed the development of new infrastructures for financial markets. In addition, the roundtable Tokenise the Present to Prepare the Future brought together Emmanuelle Lemarquis, Conducting Officer Compliance & Legal at CaixaBank Asset Management Luxembourg; Carlos Matilla, CEO of ioBuilders; Ben Brophy, Head of Institutional Growth Europe at Solana Foundation; and Virginia Linares, Head of Coordination & Control, Securities Services at Cecabank. The discussion was moderated by Simon Gorbutt, Deputy CEO of Luxembourg for Finance.
The event was closed by Brenda Bol, Country Head of Cecabank S.A., Branch in Luxembourg, who highlighted Luxembourg's role as one of Europe's leading financial innovation hubs and the strong interest generated by the event: "The response to this roundtable reflects the dynamism of a sector that continues to move forward with confidence in the development of tokenisation." She added: "Eighteen months after opening our branch, we can confidently say that it was the right decision. We have strengthened our international presence and deepened our relationships with clients, enabling us to support them more closely in their growth and adaptation to a continuously evolving financial environment".
Building the European digital assets ecosystem
Cecabank's commitment to digital assets is built on its experience as a neutral and specialised B2B provider and on its ability to bring its expertise in institutional custody, technological capabilities and rigorous regulatory standards into this new ecosystem. As the leading Securities Services infrastructures in the Iberian market, the bank helps connect traditional finance with the new opportunities emerging from the tokenised economy.
This strategy is also supported by a strong regulatory foundation. Cecabank is the only financial institution registered with the Bank of Spain as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP), an authorisation obtained in November 2024. One year later, the bank became the first B2B custodian in Spain to obtain a MiCA licence. It has also launched the European passporting process with the aim of extending these services to Ireland, Portugal and Luxembourg.
The bank's strategy has materialised in several significant developments over the past year. In May 2026, Cecabank launched its crypto-asset custody service for financial institutions, providing a comprehensive solution that enables them to offer crypto-asset trading services to their end clients with the highest levels of security and protection. Two months later, it participated alongside other Spanish financial institutions in Spain's first multi-bank proof of concept for tokenised deposits, demonstrating the potential of digital money to transform payment and settlement processes.
At European level, the bank joined Qivalis in May 2026, a banking consortium working on the development of a MiCA-compliant euro-denominated stablecoin. It subsequently became the first Spanish institution to join as a founding member, Regulated Layer One (RL1), a Luxembourg-based pan-European blockchain infrastructure for the financial sector.
Together, these developments reinforce Cecabank's position as one of Europe’s leading institutions in the development of infrastructures and services for the digital economy, with a value proposition focused on supporting financial institutions in the adoption of digital assets.
